Optical wireless sensors allow non-contact monitoring of movements. This is particularly beneficial in conjunction with large load carriers (LLC), which are very heavy and would subject other sensors to excessive wear and tear, or tiny SLC that are too light to be detected by mechanical sensors.
Using optical reflections, the light sensors automatically detect the application status in question, for example that of load carriers inside a rack. The range of detection above the wireless sensor is up to 40 mm for conventional colors. If the sensor detects a change in the quantity of materials, it automatically notifies the control system, triggering a fully automated request for replenishment.
Since detection is non-contact, neither the detected object nor the sensor is subject to wear and tear. In combination with a long-life battery, both maintenance-free operation and long running times are guaranteed. The service life of the battery in an eKanban application, for example, is several years.
